Hey teacher!

I love when my students say "Hey teacher!" because I never know what is going to follow that line. The last couple of weeks my students have said some pretty funny lines. They know how to make me smile. Let me share a few.

--One of my boys is OBSESSED with cats. I even think that obsessed is an understatement. The other day he sang this line, "I kissed a cat, and I liked it!" And today as he was turning in his homework, he said, "The kitties from heaven reminded me to bring my homework." Oh dear.

--For the last few weeks, I've been wearing tennis shoes everyday to school. One day I wore a dress with a scarf (I'm a stylish teacher). Several kids made this statement: "Teacher, your outfit looks silly with those tennis shoes. But, if the doctor says you need to wear them, it's ok." I have some fashionistas.

--This week during reading groups, the students read an article from National Geographic Explorer about Madagascar. I talked with the students about making a connection with this article to another book or story they've read about the rainforest. A little boy stated, "I haven't been to a rainforest, but I've been to Rainforest Cafe in California. It's a wild place to shop and eat." I'll take any connection.

--A boy told me about his weekend plans. He said, "I get to go to my sister's dance competition this weekend. I'm so excited to see all the sparkly and pretty costumes!"  It's not everyday that you hear a little boy say that.

--To spice up the spelling test, I decided to sing a line from a song that had the spelling word in it. I planned on just me singing, but the class decided to sing the line that came after it. Word: dance. Me: (sing) "Just dance." Class: (sing) "Gonna be okay." Word: prince. Me: "You'll be the prince." Class: "And I'll be the princess. It's a love story. Just say yes." I love singing.

--While the class was silently reading, a boy raised his hand. I went over to his desk and asked him what he needed. He said, "I'm unhappy." I asked him why. He drew me a picture. He wanted to pull his card from a green to a yellow because he was unkind to someone during lunch. Fine with me if you want to punish yourself.

The Moon Lodge (cabin 2)

Right after we got home from Heber Valley Camp, we hopped in the car again and drove up to Shawn's place. Bre, Daniel, Katie, and I spent some qt in the car. Up at Shawn's, we went snowmobiling (which was my first time and super fun), ate dinner, played a game or two, ate ice cream, and watched a movie (since it was Valentine's Day, the guys let us watch You've Got Mail). It was a very enjoyable afternoon/evening. Thanks Shawn and friends!

Heber Valley Camp (cabin 1)

We went up to Heber Valley Camp Friday night and stayed over until Saturday morning. I think we all had a good time. On our way up, we hit 2 deer. Scary! Luckily, the deer were small and we weren't going that fast and I wasn't driving. We were all ok, except for CHop's car--which now has a couple dents.
