Happy, Happy Birthday, Katie dear!

Let me take you back to August 1999. I was starting my freshman year at Highland High School. My schedule went like this: dance, hnrs english, world civ, chorale, lab bio, lunch, hnrs math topics 3/4, and then seminary. I walked to seminary with a girl I met in my math class, Karissa. We sat down next to one of Karissa's friends. Karissa introduced me to her friend. I then said, "Hey, do you have choir 3rd hour?" Her friend replied, "Yeah, I do." That friend was Katherine Anne Bloomfield. From that moment on, she and I have been best friends. Our friendship solidified on November 19, 1999 when we were partners in crime--but that's another story. I found a few priceless pictures to share.

BYU graduationKatie is a lovely person. Let me tell you why.
5. She looks great (cute clothes, beautiful smile, dorky hair, etc.).
4. She loves the world and its people (Africa, Europe, Ecuador, Russia, America, Mother Theresa).
3. She is very bright, educated, and driven (passed numerous AP tests, scored very well on the ACT, got into BYU, received a scholarship, graduated from the nursing program, passed the NCLEX in 75 questions).
2. She takes time for friends and family (hangs out with nephews, talks on the phone late at night when her patients are asleep, makes dinner for the fam even when she's not asked to, goes places with her siblings).
1. She has strong morals and a kind heart (too many examples to write).

Happy Birthday, Katie girl!
(Her birthday is really tomorrow, March 30th.)

Happy Birthday, Bunk Buddies!

It was twelve short months ago that bunkbuddies.blogspot.com was created. What fun it has been! I remember when Britt and I brainstormed a thousand different names, titles, and web-addresses for our little bog. To relish the "good ol' days", I went through and combined a top 5 of some of the best posts/stories.
Enjoy!

Counsel

Yesterday, during reading groups, I had a very deep conversation with two of my students.  Here is the conversation, which came out of nowhere.
Student 1: "Teacher, you need to get married."

Me: "Oh, I do?"

Student 1: "Yes, because it's what you're supposed to do."

Me: "Hmmm..."

Student 2: "I think teacher is cool and fun, even though she's not married."

Me: "Thanks."

Student 2: "Yeah, I think she's fine not married."

Student 1: "You're right, but..."

Me: "I'll work on getting married.  Ok?  Now, what connection did you have to Junie B. Jones?"

Sweet Memory

I went to the BYU Men's Volleyball game the other night. They beat Long Beach State in 5 games (5th game's final score 15-13--too close, Cougs). I had almost forgotten how fun those boys are to watch. Then I remembered when I was a sweet little freshman and the Cougars won the NCAA Championships. I also remembered the beautiful Brazilian setter--Carlos Moreno. After the last home game before the tournament, I touched Carlos's arm and asked him to be in a picture with me. He said, "Oh, yes!" That experience is most definitely in my top 10 highlights at BYU. I'm now getting excited to attend the NCAA Men's Volleyball semifinals and finals in the Smith Fieldhouse in May with my family. I really hope the Cougs can make it and that Carlos will come back to cheer on his alma mater.

P.S. Happy first day of spring yesterday!

Teacher pride

I know I'm not supposed to be prideful, so a professor told me I could be pleased.  I am very pleased with one of my students.  My little Hallie won the school 3rd grade spelling bee.  Yeah!  Way to spell-out the other students!

Grant Hartley Lindman

Happy 1 month birthday, Grant! This little guy is the newest addition to the Lindman and Johnson families. He is my oldest sister's baby. From what I've heard and gathered from pictures, Grant looks like a sweet little boy. I can hardly wait to hold him (although, I don't know when that will be).

Very Creative

Thanks, Shawn.
Shawn decided to write my biography; after I suggested that I would be a very interesting post.  Check it out.  It's very witty.
(I don't know where that picture came from, though.)
